Last night I went to the store to stock up for a new commitment; I'm living a week adhering to healthy, phase 1 dieting, revolving mostly around fruits, veggies and nuts. (Don't get me wrong - I love meat. It is just hard to come by clean sources of grass-fed animal protein these days, and when you do, it can get expensive...) I loaded up on berries, nuts, spinach, tomatoes, avocados, and a variety of other fruits and veggies, selecting each for their nutritional benefits.

I've done phase 1 before. I've committed to other diets and health programs. I've forced myself to swallow some of the most disgusting things in the name of good health, often against my gag reflex's wishes. Today is no exception; I made myself a tomato and avocado smoothie. Now, I love avocados. I even love smoothies. I HATE tomatoes. I have for as long as my memory stretches. I love hot sauce and tomato sauce, but the taste of raw tomato makes me sick. But, in the name of phase 1 dieting, I decided that I could choke down some raw tomato for the health benefits. I was wrong. Fortunately, I had some carrots and almond butter to hold me over.

Here is the best advice I can give someone choosing to eat Phase 1; choose foods that are on the diet that you also EJOY eating. Phase 1 dieting is not like any other diet, it is a lifestyle. If you try to create a lifestyle around foods you find revolting, chances are you are going to revert back to foods you find delicious. There is definitely a transition period for your taste buds to acclimate to eating different foods. But you have to crawl before you walk, so make it easy on yourself!

I absolutely agree. For me it is dried beans. I don't mind eating them but I get so much bloat I pay for it for days, so I've given up on them.
Re the meat - we have access to wild kangaroo at a price that is cheaper than beef and lovely to eat, so I don't have to give up meat completely. I would like to think that it was pasture fed, but there might not be much in the way of grass, so they live on whatever it is that roos eat when the grass runs out. No antibiotics or hormones in the meat either.
Keep up the good posts.

I have been on the Phase I diet since June. Before that I have done purges for colon and fungus. My goal is to be healthy, prevent illnesses, and to rid myself of pounds that were gained during a very stressful time.
Over these past 3 1/2 months, I do have more energy and sleep better. But the pounds remain. I have lost a total of 5. My stumbling block always seems to be that I am a vegitarian (not a vegan). I do eat eggs and drink milk (organic). But, whoever I talk to about any diet seem to trip over their own tongues when I mention this. Is there a problem with being a vegetarian and loosing weight?

There is no problem with being a vegetarian and losing weight. However, it is very difficult to eat phase 1 and vegetarian since a cornerstone of the phase 1 diet is lean protein in the form of fish and grass fed meat. If you aren't getting calories from lean meat, you could be replacing them with carbs in the form of potatoes or grains. Be sure that you aren't getting sugar in the form of starch (that may be feeding an underlying fungal problem) or in other foods in your diet, and get plenty of protein in the form of nuts and beans. Also, if you haven't already, I would try getting into a healthy exercise routine; exercise and the right diet is always the recipe to cutting off excess fat and building lean muscle. Hope this helps!

I would like to do this diet. I am hoping it will help me but I am not sure where to start. It seems that I need to buy the book, which I dont mind but I am excited to get started.

I have been struggling and need a positive hope for my future. I looked on the site and do not see anything for the phase 1 diet on knowthecause.com in resources. What I did see was an education on fungus.

I would appreciate any advice or direction I could get.

Thank you kindly,
g=)

I think, if I am right you can find the diet in the FAQ section on knowthecause.com
I have been watching Know the Cause for quit some time but have not diligently tried the Phase 1. My main stumbling block is the grains, for years I have used whole grains , I have a grain mill and have made my own bread really believing this was good for my families health. The first time I heard Doug say " no grains" I wanted to cry:) Anyway, I have decided to give it all a 100% try. I am on my second day and all is going well. I guess the proof is in the pudding! I am glad I found this spot to read I think it will help me keep with the program.

I have IBS and diverticular disease, which I have had super problems with (but no surgery so far, thank the Lord). I would like to do the phase one diet, but if I eat any type of dairy OR if I don't eat plenty of bread/grains my colon cramps very badly for hours/days. Is there a solution to this?

I just tried the frosted pecan recipe in the cookbook. Horrible!! Way too much stevia. I've a feeling there's an error in the amount. Wasted a pound of pecans!!:-(

Hi Jacquelyn,
I used to suffer from IBS...no more...not for a long time now. I have followed Phase 1 for almost 3 years now...It WORKS!! If I were you I would also look into some good natural Anti-Fungals, such as Caprylic Acid, Olive Leaf Extract, Oregano Oil, UGN,etc...BioActive Nutrients has an excellent Anti-Fungal Kit. You may want to try the Phase 1 for 30 days or so...sometimes sypmtoms can get worse at first(this is called die-off)...and then ....MUCH BETTER!!! Just remember, no dairy and no grains.
Recently Doug added seeds such as Amaranth, Quinoa, and Buckwheat to Phase 1 Eating Plan. Good Luck to you!!
Sincerly,
terri

Where is the cookbook that others are getting recipes out of? I'm very interested. I've been on phase 1 for 2 weeks now and not having as much trouble avoiding grains as I thought I might, because I love my grains and pasta.

I finally kicked the sugar addiction after coming down with a serious sinus infection. I've been on the Phase 1 for about six weeks now and have lost 11 pounds without exercise. My measure of success will be the color of my tongue.I'll know I'm doing good when it is rid of its white coat.

We've been on the modified phase I diet since 1-4-09, picking up information here and there, until we ordered books to get the detailed.

My husband has had psoriasis for over 30 years, since he had a bout with strep throat and was put on Penicillin for an extended time. He's tried over the years all the conventional treatments for psoriasis with no success.

Point of interest, when he was put on Lamisil for toenail fungus 8 years ago, his psoriasis improved during that time. We made no connection to the anti-fungal drug. He also has evevated cholesterol levels, another fungus indicator. Light bulb moment!

Having caught one of Dougs shows, we were very interested in what Doug has to say. We are ready to try anything. Gary's favorite snack foods WERE, peanuts, corn chips, Cheese Doodles, & pop corn. He had to have one of these items each night.
Wake up call for Gary. Being a can do kind of guy,he sent me online to find out what I could about the foods for the phase I plan. We began eating a modified phase I eating plan. We have witnessed a miracle.
After one month of eliminating his craved foods, the plaque scales are gone! The thickness is gone. While he still has some redness, we can see skin again. This is wonderful! I want everyone who has this skin issiue to know about this eating plan. We are began the true Phase I plan 2-5-10, I'm ording anit-fungals. We can't wait to report what happens after the end of 6 weeks. Another plus, is Gary lost 16 pounds of gut fat, during the first 3 weeks and I lost 10 lbs on the modified plan. Neither one of us was obese, but needed to trim the tummy pudge. Doug has certainly improved our quality of life. Thank you, Doug
