Probiotic Yogurt Bacteria May be Used to Give Vaccinations.
Most immunizations or vaccinations involve injecting toxins and/or live cells from bacteria and viruses into muscle tissue such as the shoulder. While injective immunizations have prevented many illnesses and saved many millions of lives, they do require painful shots given in physicians offices. Immunizations involving live bacteria or viruses can also very occasionally cause the disease the vaccine was trying to prevent. In addition, immunizations are linked to illnesses such as neurological diseases (like Guillen Barre and possibly autism), blood problems (like anemia) and auto- immune diseases.
A few immunizations such as polio vaccine can be given by mouth. Such immunizations can enter the body via the intestinal lining and provoke a powerful protective immune response. Any immunization given by mouth has to be survive the acid contents of the stomach. A new way to give immunizations may be via probiotic yogurt bacteria such as Acidophilus and Bidiobacterium. A recent study published in the March 17, 2009 Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences- USA added Anthrax genes to Lactobacillus growing in yogurt. Giving an immunization of Lactobacillus by mouth protected experimental mice from Anthrax infection as well as injective immunotherapy. Taking immunizations by mouth is not only easier to take that “shot” or injection immunizations, but many researchers believe that such food based immunizations provide better immunity and have fewer side effects than injective immunotherapy.
Relatively little work has been done to develop immunizations for common mold infections like Candida or Aspergillus. In the future, research may develop effective immunizations for mold infections.
