Amongst my close friends, I've often referred to 2009 as 2008's hangover. 2008 was a gluttonous year for me, particularly in terms of health. In 2009, I reaped the consequences of a year of poor diet, lack of exercise, bad sleep patterns, and lack of supplementation. But aside from a few failed attempts over the course of the year to kickstart back into a healthy lifestyle, I did little to correct my errant ways. I think the important thing to learn from the two years in tandem is that change is not as easy as wanting to be healthy. In other words, I felt crummy for a whole year as a result of a year of poor health choices, and that feeling crummy sapped my motivation to change my eating habits, to get up and exercise, etc. That is what is known as a negative feedback cycle - you feel bad, so you do nothing which makes you feel worse. This is a slippery slope if you are trying to get healthy.

I'm not a fan of the entire self help genre. I think change starts with a desire for change that manifests itself as a well thought out plan and is held together through determination. Encouragement from friends and family definitely makes the process easier. But many times, you just have to dig down deep.

I do a number of things for know the cause. I help manage the website, I record the audio books, I write segments for the show, I research things for Doug, I help Doug sift through all the literature that lands on his desk, and obviously, I write for this blog. Part of my job for 2010 is to make this blog interesting, vibrant and interactive. One of the ways I want to do that is to update you on my quest for good health. I'm going to come up with a clear, concise health plan based on exercise, Doug's Phase 1 Diet, and a good supplement regimen with specific goals. When I come up with that plan, I'm going to post it on the blog and keep the readers updated.

I'm excited about this year!

I look forward to your coming posts. I won't feel so alone in my own quest! Although I was well intentioned in 2009, I am now actively pursuing health. I have been on the Phase I diet for most of 2 weeks and I am beginning to see some improvement. Exercise has to be extremely moderate at this point but anything is better than nothing. The biggest change is my attitude & willingness to change (or fear if I don't change!). I am looking forward to your encouragement & plan....please hurry & keep your updates coming!

Hello, Yesterday was my first day and it was quite different. I ate pretty well before but I did not realize how many foods have sugar!!! I am also starting a workout program and I am extremely excited. I have been getting out of shape and feeling depressed for a long time. I am a bit nervous how the next few days will go...Its nice there is a chat room for the diet(lifestyle change) =)

We’ve been looking for a “cure” for my husband’s psoriasis. The psoriasis began 30 years ago after he had strep throat.
I’d caught an episode of Know The Cause last summer and suggested that he try the diet. He craves, anything peanut, wheat, corn, especially pop corn, and corn Doodles. Each night he had to have one of these items, or ice cream. If these items were not available, he would put honey on enriched saltines, even though I kept whole wheat items on hand for myself. He ate a diet heavily weighted in bread, corn, and potatoes, even though we had other vegetables at every meal.
Then he saw the show for himself. Something clicked. He immediately went on the phase one diet. Like he said, “who would ever think that peanuts and corn are bad for you”.
Within days he saw a marked improvement in his psoriasis. After three weeks the plaques are gone and you can see new skin colored flesh, instead of plaques and redness.
His indigestion is gone. He was not overweight, but has dropped 17 pounds and lost his somewhat of a “gut” and his love handles. He is trim again.
Now I make chocolate almond butter for him, instead of peanut butter and he puts it on his green apples, instead of enriched crackers.
We can’t wait to see what kind of results he gets at the end of six weeks.
We’ve begun a new journey. Thank you, Doug!
