The basis of the Phase 1 diet is no grains, potatoes, corn (which is a grain, not a vegetable) or sugar. Giving up grains is the toughest part of the diet for most people, which leads many to look for alternatives to the grain products they miss so much. Among those grain alternatives are spelt and sprouted grains.

There are many arguments as to why these grains are healthier than conventional wheat including more vitamins, high protein content, and amino acid balance. Many of these grains contain more fiber than conventional wheat or flour.

However, alternative grains are still grains - many of them will be kept in a silo and will be vulnerable to fungal contamination. They still contain the carbohydrates (which immediately convert to sugar during digestion) that fungi crave. Phase 1 is a strict no-grain diet, which means these purportedly safe alternatives are not ok to be consumed when following a Phase 1 diet. All of the health benefits these grains claim to have are easily derived from vegetables and the limited fruits that are specifically on the Phase 1 diet.

Many people believe that quinoa is a grain; it is actually a seed and is a relative of leafy green veggies like spinach. Quinoa is loaded with manganese and magnesium. Quinoa is great for Phase 1 dieting.

When going on the Phase 1 diet for weight loss, serious health problems, or just to be healthier, try changing instead of substituting. Go off all grains (including the alternative grains), corn, potatoes, and sugar for a month. Eat lean, grass fed meat, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and the few fruits allowed on Phase 1. You may find after a month that you feel so good that you don't miss conventional or alternative grains.

Hi...Quinoa is also a complete protein. It contains a balanced set of essential amino acids. It's also very easy to prepare.

I’ll finish my story….sorry about that.
My husband has had extensive psoriasis on his legs, elbows, & scalp for 30 years. He’s tried all the conventional treatments will no success. Taking Xango did remove the burn and itch, but did not clear up the psoriasis. After one month on the phase I eating plan, his psoriasis plaques are gone! We can see skin instead of plaques and fiery red skin. How amazing! Plus, he’s lost 16 lbs to date, he’s wasn’t heavy, had the gut thing going on.
We will stay on this plan! He’s a coffee drinker and does miss coffee. We would like to know why is coffee eliminated? Thank you.

Hi all,

I was just watching the show and heard Doug say that the Diet was on the FAQ page. I went to pull up the FAQS and nothing - all I get is a 404 saying page cannot be found??? Has this happened to anyone else? If so, will this be fixed soon, or is there another way we can access the Diet? Hope someone can help.

I tried to run the list of foods down for you to give you the link, but I can't find it again, right now. I'll keep looking.....it is there. That's what we used to get started on Phase I .
The article does not contain the Phase I "diet", ithere is a list of foods you can eat on Phase I.
I'll keep trying.
We sprung for the three Phase books and the recipe book. They were 20% off. These books have made it so much easier for us to plan meals and stay on Phase I. The books are full of information that created many an "ah ha" moments for us. Blessing on your quest for great health. This plan has done a wonders for us.

Thank you so much, Donnell, I found that - at least it's a start! I probably will be getting the Cookbook eventually.

If anyone comes across a section where the whole Phase 1 Diet is described, please share! :-)

Hey everyone -

Here is a link to the Phase 1 Diet section in FAQ.

http://knowthecause.com/Resources/tabid/56/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/184/categoryId/55/What-is-the-Phase-One-diet.aspx

Copy and paste that into your web browser and it should show up.

I'm going to talk to our web guy today about listing the diet more prominently on our website to avoid confusion. Thanks for reading!

I recently found Quinoa Pasta but I see corn in the ingredients, should I be concerned about that?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer!
